Enapter starts crowdfunding campaign

German BaFin approves crowdfunded asset investment of the award-winning company

Berlin (March 30, 2020) - From today, private investors have the opportunity to invest in Enapter at www.enapter-invest.de. The company develops decentralised hydrogen generators (electrolysers) and investments are possible starting from as little as a few hundred euros. In return, investors will receive an annual interest. The crowdfunding campaign will support Enapter's development in the industrial mass production of the AEM electrolyser. The crowdfunded asset investment has been approved by BaFin, the financial supervisory authority in Germany.

"Our mission is to produce green hydrogen cheaper than fossil fuels," explains Sebastian-Justus Schmidt, majority owner of Enapter. "Hydrogen produced from solar and wind power will become the oil of the 21st century." Many experts agree, and the momentum for hydrogen is growing. The Federal Government is now using hydrogen as part of a successful energy transition, which is summarised in the ‘National Hydrogen Strategy’. Currently, the majority of green energy is used for electricity, which makes up about a third of Germany's energy consumption. The remaining two thirds are powered by fossil fuels. Green hydrogen can be a CO₂-free alternative to fossil fuels.

For green hydrogen to replace fossil fuels, the electrolysis industry must scale up massively. Enapter is playing a leading role in this; the patented hydrogen generator is already in use worldwide. Enapter's unique AEM technology works with less expensive materials and a simpler system design than other electrolysers. This enables Enapter to produce modular electrolysers that can be combined to form larger systems, just like solar modules.

“With a crowdfunding investment, we are taking the steps towards industrial mass production,” states Schmidt. This should take place at the Enapter Campus, for which Schmidt is currently searching for locations. Here, the company will invest in production, but especially in research and development.

Enapter is a global, award-winning company. At the start of the year, the Handelsblatt newspaper crowned Enapter as the winner of the annual Energy Awards. Last year, the company won the international SET Award organised by the German Energy Agency (dena) and the World Energy Council. Enapter was also a winner of the "New Energy Challenge" held by the Shell Group in 2018. Forbes magazine recently included Enapter’s young leaders in their prestigious “30 under 30” energy sector. All of the above recognised the unique technology and associated cost reduction potential from mass production.

CrowdDesk GmbH will provide the necessary technical infrastructure for the crowd investing project alongside Enapter.
